Detoxification: What is it?
Jan 27, 2010

I hear people talking all the time about detoxification and what it is. In the context of drug and alcohol rehabilitation it is just removing the drugs or alcohol from the body. It is nothing mythical, mysterious, or complicated. Actually you do this on your own on a daily basis providing your liver is functioning. There is nothing else that needs to be done other then to stop consuming drugs or alcohol for this to happen. During the time coming off of some drug as well as alcohol it might be necessary for a doctor to prescribe medication to lessen the symptoms of withdrawals, however your body will detox you from most drugs and definitely alcohol all on it's own.

Drug Rehab in Asia
Jan 20, 2010

With the limited availability to suitable drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers in Asia it is no wonder so many people travel overseas when they find they are in need of a rehabilitation center. With the advent of Channah Thailand a couple of years ago many people are finding it more convenient and more reasonably priced to come to Thailand for treatment. Most of Channah's clients are picked up at the airport in Bangkok. Channah has welcomed guests from every populated continent on the world. The only prerequisites for attending the Channah programme are a person must speak fluent English, must be physically capable of climbing a set of stairs un-assisted, be 16 years or older, and most importantly want help with there drug or alcohol addiction.

Why is Channah different?
Jan. 16, 2010

I am quite often asked why is Channah different? I would like to try and explain. Basically 95% of rehabilitation centres around the world are the same, they believe while you are in their programme you have to live, breath and sleep recovery. They believe there is no room for anything else. If you look at the list of rules you will find at most centres it will take you quite some time to read them all.

Rules like:

Most Centres: No magazines, novels, newspapers or any other non-approved material. They believe all you should have access to is approved recovery related materials.
Us: We have a small library and you are welcome to bring any reading material you wish with you.

Most Centres: No Ipods, tape players, CD or DVD players, etc.
Us: We have a very large music and video library with many of the latest titles, you are free to borrow any of them you like to play or watch in your room.

Most Centres: No internet, email access, mobile phones!
Us: We have WiFi in your private room at the centre or computers in the lobby for your use, mobile phones we only ask you to shut off during meal and session times.

The list goes on an on at some centres, when making you decision on a treatment centre take a look at their rules and conditions.

What it all boils down to is most centres believe all you should be doing is concentrating on your recovery. We agree that it is your most important issue during this time, we also however understand that many people can not leave their entire lives being family, business, etc. behind for 4 weeks or longer. Being totally disconnected from the outside world is not necessarily in your best interest as the stress and overload when you do return and have to catch up on everything can be very detrimental to your recovery.

We treat everyone like an adult; you know why you are here and what you have to do. However you still have to live your lives and most people can not put them on total hold for 4 weeks or more. By all means keep in touch with your family and office, get your work done in your spare time, it can only help you so you know what you are returning to and can plan for it ahead of time. Most importantly you need to learn to live your life, happily and productively without the need for drugs or alcohol, it is very difficult to do that in a completely cut off environment.

Youth rehab, treatment opposed to punishment.
Jan. 12, 2010

Quite often I speak with the parents of a youth with a drug or alcohol addition, many times they want their child to go to and incredibly hard, boot camp style, programme. Basically in my opinion this is punishment. Frankly, punishment will rarely work and only push your young man or young lady farther away from you. Consider when you were young, how would you of felt if your parents placed you into a programme like that? What kind of resentment would you of held onto? When you have learned that your son or daughter is struggling with a life threatening condition of drug addition it is time to support them, not punish them.

Youth Rehab
Jan. 7, 2010

When it comes to drug and alcohol rehabilitation for young people there are special considerations to take into account. Being much more impressionable this can be a good or bad experience for a youth. Many parents when they find out their child is an addict or alcoholic are in emotional turmoil and don't know where to turn or where to get your child the help they need. Channah will accept clients as young as 16 into the programme, we can do this since we run a very individualized programme tailored to the needs of the client, also several of our counselors have a great deal of experience dealing with youth.
