The only purpose of an intervention
Aug. 28, 2009
The only purpose of a drug or alcohol intervention should
be to get a person to seek help with their drug or alcohol addiction. When a
family member of a person calls me worried about their loved once drug addiction
or alcoholism and a requesting an intervention we make sure that the family is
aware that the whole purpose of the interventionist going to see the client is
to get them to hopefully agree to come back to the rehab centre with them. This
being said there are many things to think about before the intervention. Will
the person be able to leave their job, family, responsibilities, etc for at
least 28 days? As many of these barriers you can eliminate prior to the
intervention the better the chances of success.
So when planning an intervention remember the only purpose
of it is to convince your loved one they have a problem and need help, all of
the plans are in place prior to the intervention and if done right there is no
reasons why they can not go to an addiction rehab now.
Choosing a rehab
Aug. 26, 2009
Many people wonder, how do they choose a rehab? There are
many rehabs around the world and the closest one is not necessarily the best one
for you. In fact we would suggest getting as far away from your environment to
a safe and secure place as possible for your primary care. There are many
benefits to being a long ways from your normal network of friends and your
environment. If you are in a remote location in another country it is very
difficult to get drugs even if you are looking for them. During your primary
drug or alcohol rehab you need to concentrate on yourself and do not need any
outside distractions. If a friend invites you to a party where you would be
tempted to use drugs or alcohol in your early days, you being 6,000 miles away
is a very good excuse for not going.
When you a long ways from your normal environment without
the triggers that usually cause you to use drugs or alcohol you can concentrate
on the issues that brought you to that place in the first place and work towards
breaking your cycle of addiction.
Detox vs rehab
Aug. 24, 2009
The difference between Detox and Residential Rehabilitation
are vast. Detox is in a nutshell the process of getting the drugs or alcohol
out of your system. There are various ways of helping a person with this
process and keeping them pain free, we believe everyone should be kept as
comfortable as possible during their detox. This could involve prescription
medications, massage, exercise, herbal treatments, or vitamins and supplements.
Detox is only the first stage, getting off drugs is relatively easy, staying off
them is hard work. After the detox phase is finished the rehabilitation process
begins. The best rehab centres in the world will adapt a proven program to suit
your individual needs with group and one to one therapy, activities and
socializing skills, relapse prevention and awareness, and an appropriate
aftercare program.
Getting off drugs can be easy, staying off them can be very
hard work, however you have it in you to live a happy drug or alcohol free life,
a good drug rehab will show you how to use the tools you already have and give
you some new ones.
All rehabs say they care about their clients. Do They?
Aug. 21, 2009
When you read a website about a drug rehabilitation centre
they all say they care about their clients, do they? So many drug rehab
programs push clients into pre-conceived programs that may not be suitable to
the clients needs, many take way more clients then they should putting a huge
burden on the therapists. How many clients can a therapist deal with in a week
and still have the time and energy to truly care about each individual. I have
read about some centres with 50 or more clients per therapist, if the centre
offers 1 one to one session with a therapist per week it would mean each
therapist needs to see 10 people per day if you work a 5 day week. How much
individual attention can any one therapist offer with a schedule like that. At
Channah we offer 3 one to one sessions with a therapist per week minimum, if you
need more we provide more, our ratio is 2 clients per therapist so you truly get
to know your therapist and he or she can offer you the individual care and
support that you need during this time of change. Also where parts of our
program are fixed, we know what works and what doesn’t, everything can, and is,
adapted to the clients needs. When you are in a drug or alcohol rehab program
your needs need to come first, you need to concentrate on your own issues in
order to have the best chance of a successful rehabilitation program.
Deciding to JUST DO IT
Aug. 16, 2009
Nike said it best, JUST DO IT, chances are if you are
reading this you or someone you care about needs a drug rehab or alcohol
rehabilitation centre. Getting off, and more importantly, staying off drugs or
alcohol on your own is difficult if not impossible. A good rehab centre will
tailor a program to your needs, offer intervention services, have experienced,
caring professionals that know what they are doing, and offer aftercare to their
clients.
Only a few of the best residential rehabilitation centres
in the world offer all of these services. Choose carefully then ask for help,
you will find the best centres will do everything they can to help you get into
treatment and stay clean afterwards. However nobody can help you with your drug
addiction if you don’t first ask for help and truly wish to change your
behavior. If you are considering getting help with your drug or alcohol
addiction, just do it, sooner rather then later.
Your life is worth more
Aug. 12, 2009
The cost of rehab can sometimes be high and there are many
different drug and alcohol rehabs around the world with lower and higher fees.
However when at all possible the costs of the rehabilitation centre should not
be your first concern. Many rehabs that are very expensive are not as effective
as some others. Also if you look at what your drug or alcohol use has cost you
over the years rehab starts to look very affordable. If you are going to an
alcohol rehabilitation centre you should be more interested in the effectiveness
of the program, how well tailored it is to your needs, if you want to be there,
private or shared rooms, etc. There are so many things to consider, the fees
are only one of them. Many centres with low fees also charge you extra if you
require additional therapy sessions, bill for medications, doctors visits,
Psychiatric evaluations, excursions, etc. So when comparing the fees of a drug
rehab centre you need to be well informed and take all of these items into
account.
Alcohol rehab
Aug. 8, 2009
The process of alcohol rehab usually starts with detox.
Usually this can be done on site at a luxury rehab or in extreme cases in a
hospital setting. When done onsite it is best if you are part of the
rehabilitation program from day one, since keeping busy is one of the best ways
to keep your mind off of your symptoms. There are also many medications that
can be used to keep you comfortable during your alcohol detox. Your detox does
not need to be a horrible experience, it is rarely comfortable however there are
effective ways to deal with it. During and after your detox your rehabilitation
program should be intensive, challenging, and tailored to your needs. Each
individual with alcoholism issues will have different needs and a rehabilitation
centre should recognize this and suit the rehab program to the client, not the
client to the program.
Drug Rehab in Asia
Aug. 4, 2009
Going for drug rehab in Asia might seem extreme. However it can be the perfect fit for many people. It is more cost effective then
equivalent programmes in the USA or UK, your drug treatment is much easier to
keep secret since most people will believe you were on holidays in Thailand for
one month. The facilities, food, treatment, and accommodation are first class
and in a luxurious environment. You are in a area with a long history of
holistic treatment and close to nature, which in itself is conductive to life
changing experiences. With a truly international staff the program will have
the right therapist for your needs.
