Drug Detox in Asia
Oct. 30, 2009

Options for drug detox in Asia are very limited. There are a few hospitals willing to do this procedure and most are capable in an emergency. In Hong Kong there is one clinic I know of offering Rapid Opiate Detox. However depending on your health and the drugs you are taking most of the time a hospital stay is not necessary to clean the drugs out of your body and a drug detox can be done, under medical supervision, as part of your drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. At Channah after a full medical exam in a private hospital you can usually undertake you drug detox in Asia while being part of the program at Channah. This has a number of benefits, you won’t be bored in a hospital bed and be part of the program from day one. You will also have other people around you that have been through the same issues and willing to offer support. When considering doing your drug detox in Asia think about Channah as an option, our trained staff are waiting to take your call or answer your email.

Alcohol Detox in Asia
Oct. 25, 2009

Alcohol detox can be potentially dangerous in a small number of individuals. Alcohol depresses your system and over a long period of time when you take the alcohol away without a substitute, seizures are possible, although rare. When coming for your alcohol detox in Asia one of the first things you will do is visit a private hospital for a full medical examination and assessment, at that time any medications you require will be prescribed by the doctor you are visiting. Alcohol detox in Asia can be done safely and successfully as long as it is supported with medications and trained staff. At Channah during your alcohol detox you will be part of the programme from day one, activity and keeping busy is the best way to keep your mind off of your withdrawal symptoms during alcohol detox.

Recovery in Alcohol Rehab
Oct. 20, 2009

Primary care in a residential rehab for alcohol abuse is just the start of your journey, it is an essential first step and done properly will lay the ground work for a life time of sobriety. Going to a dedicated drug and alcohol rehab is the best thing you can do in your life if you are fighting substance abuse. Alcohol rehab however is a long process and will take a considerable amount of work on your part. It is not something that you need to do alone. When you have finally made the decision to seek help with your alcohol addiction make sure you choose a centre like Channah with a strong focus on aftercare. Primary addiction care is very important and choosing the right centre could save your life. Just as important though is finding a suitable aftercare therapist. Channah will show you the way, help you understand your addiction, and deal with the reasons you were abusing alcohol in the fist place. You still have to make the final decision to change, you have all the power.

Clinical Supervision in Rehab
Oct. 15, 2009

One often overlooked aspect of the organization of a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center is do the therapist receive clinical supervision?

Clinical supervision is when therapist periodically attend therapy sessions themselves. The reason for this is for a senior therapist to continually evaluate their work, life, goals, etc. and make sure the therapist is following best practices and continues to improve him or herself.

Therapists in a drug and alcohol rehab have a very stressful position and it can be easy to have emotional transference from clients. The sessions with a clinical supervisor give the therapist a place to release, while having their own mental heath and emotional wellbeing monitored.

All the therapists at Channah receive monthly clinical supervision sessions.

Channah Thailand Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Scholarship Fund
Oct 13, 2009

A recent development at Channah has been the consideration of a scholarship fund, several companies and individuals that we have helped have asked about sponsoring a bed which in essence will reduce the fees by a substantial amount to clients in need of rehabilitation services but can not afford it, in some cases covering all of the costs.

Another idea that has been considered is your donations going towards training of therapists from 3rd world countries.

Any amount that an individual or corporation would like to donate is appreciated. For your contribution you will receive, if you wish, a notation on the website as well as a link back to you if you have a website. You will also be given the opportunity to write an article which will be published on our site about why you are doing this.

You can choose who your contribution goes towards, male, female, specific country, an age group, or education of a trainer from an area or specialty you choose. All funds donated will only be used in the manner you have requested. We will not of course be able to provide you with the persons name or identifying information of the individual if they are a rehabilitation client, however they will be encouraged to write a letter to you and can identify themselves to you if they choose.

If you cover the full cost of a client’s drug or alcohol rehabilitation programme we will immediately post it on the site that it is available with the demographic data you have specified. If you have only donated a partial programme we will wait until we are contacted by the appropriate individual in need. If you wish to cover the full cost of a trainer to come to the centre for a specific amount of time we will start looking into appropriate centre's and individuals in the area you have requested asking for letters of why they should be considered and offer you the choice of the pre-screened individuals who should receive the scholarship.

Since this idea has been presented to us we have though it is a wonderful way for people to give back to society and truly change a persons life, in the case of sponsoring a trainer you could be helping many thousands of people over the course of his or her carrier.

If this is something you or your organization would be interested in, please contact us for more information

Planning to go to Rehab
Oct. 10, 2009

Drug rehabilitation can sometimes require a lot of planning before you can attend. You may have to find someone to look after your children, or possibly you have many responsibilities in your carrier. Whatever the hurtles, when you have finally made your decision to get help and attend a drug rehab you will generally find people to help you. There is a very good chance the people you will be asking for help already know your situation and want to see you attend a drug or alcohol rehabilitation center. They are hopeful that you will get clean or sober and be better able to look after your responsibilities once you return home. Taking a 28 day rehab programme can be a small investment for what you gain when you return. You will find you can get more work done, spend more time with your family, be a better mother or father, employee or supervisor. Also at Channah you will not be totally out of touch while dealing with your drug or alcohol addiction issues, there is WiFi at the centre, so you are free to bring your laptop, or use the computers in the lobby that are there for your use. Also you will be able to keep in contact with your office and family by phone, the only thing we ask is you shut your phone off during sessions and meal times.

It may seem like there are many hurtles when planning to go to rehab, however if you are determined you can overcome them. Ask for help, I think you will be surprised with the response you get from your friends and loved ones.

Physical Exercise in Rehab
Oct. 7, 2009

Physical exercise is a very important aspect to drug or alcohol rehab. It serves more purpose then just getting you into shape. It will help you sleep, since when you are detoxing this can sometimes be difficult. Exercise will help fill your free time that you previously spent drinking or doing drugs, and it will also help repair some of the damage you might of done to your body and health. Also getting into good physical condition is a huge confidence boost which many people after abusing drugs or alcohol for years definitely need.

At Channah’s drug rehab and alcohol rehabilitation programme we will tailor design a physical exercise programme to you taking into account your health, age, abilities, etc. Our personal trainer who you will be working with while in rehab has many years of experience. After a full medical examination our personal trainer will work with you towards your goals while in rehab and help you develop a plan to continue on your new path.  Remember after your detox and rehabilitation programme, when you get home you are going to have a great deal of new found free time on your hands that you use to spend abusing substances or obtaining them. What better way to use that time then keeping your body in great health?

Everyone that comes to Channah goes home in better physical condition then when they arrived.

Detox, Rehab, and Aftercare
Oct 5, 2009

Detox, rehabilitation, and aftercare are all important aspects of recovery, all three are essential and no one is more important then the other. Many places only offer detox, in our opinion this is rarely effective in long term recovery. For someone to recover from years of alcohol abuse they will need to explore many aspects of their lives. Few people can recover from a 20 year drug addiction during a one week hospital detox. Also rehab on it’s own would be difficult without detox, you can learn all the tools but if you still have the drugs in your system this is not going to be very effective either. At Channah we generally do not believe in a long hospital detox and many times you will only have to visit the doctor at the start of your programme, after that you can still be a part of everything offered at Channah even while your body is detoxing, keeping busy is one of the best ways to keep your mind off the withdrawal symptoms you may be having.

Rehabilitation helps you understand the effects of the drugs you were using as well as understand and deal with the issues that brought you to substance abuse in the first place. This doesn’t have to be a 6 month programme away from home, as shorter intensive programmes such as Channah’s have proven just as effective, if not more so.

An often overlooked aspect of recovery is aftercare, remember after you leave a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre you will have to go back to your life and the real world again. You will have the tools and knowledge you require to deal with the issues that will arise but your not done. Having local support when you get home is essential to reinforce the programme and help you stay on track. Think of Detox, Rehab, and Aftercare as a tripod, pull out any one of the legs and it is going to fall over.

Religion and Spiritualism at Channah Thailand
Oct. 3, 2009

We always have to be careful when we are talking to potential clients thinking of coming to the Drug and alcohol rehab at Channah about explaining what we mean by spiritualism. First let me say there is NO religious aspect to our drug rehab programme. Clients come to Channah from all over the world with many different cultures and religions. We will accommodate a persons religious beliefs as much as possible, however Channah does not use religion in any way towards your drug or alcohol rehabilitation.

The spiritual aspect of the programme however usually needs some explanation. Part of your programme could be meditation, breathing work, and generally getting in touch with your emotions and feeling in order to be able to identify them and control them. The idea is if you can't identify and control your emotions they will control you.

Channah is spiritual, however it is not religious in any way and will not effect or contradict any of your religious beliefs.
