Dr. Nicky Kwok

Nicky initially began his career as an
alcohol / drugs counselor and group facilitator at a residential therapeutic
community for alcohol and substance abusers in Scotland in 1987. He has since
spent many years working with both governmental agencies in Ireland and the UK
as well as with non governmental agencies in Ireland, UK, Spain, Sweden, India,
Norway, Thailand, Bhutan and Myanmar.
As a consultant to various governmental
health departments and NGO’s he has developed substance abuse treatment programs
and strategies, including harm minimization models and holistic therapeutic
methods.
The last decade of his career has been
dedicated to working with agencies and marginalized individuals and groups that
abuse substances, and the often associated health issues. This includes
anxiety, depression, chronic illness, etc. He has some privileged knowledge of
treatment regimes, with an empathic response to the client group’s life
challenges.
Nicky’s training in Trans Theoretical
Motivational Interviewing and Neuro Linguistic Programming combined with his
experience as an Acupuncturist and detoxification specialist adds another
welcome dimension to the Channah team.
With these skills, he works to provide
holistic frameworks, strategies and eclectic methods of self-empowerment through
reframing of thoughts, clarifying emotive issues and changing patterns of
behavioral responses.
As well as English he is also fluent in
Chinese languages and speaks functional Thai.
