 Tim Armstrong

Tim Armstrong B.A. CQSW, ASW,
MIPM is an Australian national, with 30+ years experience in mental health and
drug and alcohol addiction counselling. He has worked as a clinician, manager,
university lecturer, and development consultant in 4 countries - Australia, UK.,
East Timor, and Thailand.
He originally qualified as a
psychiatric social worker in the UK in 1981, and worked for both government and
non-government organizations in London and East Anglia.
On his return to Australia in
1988 he worked on the North Coast, NSW in various mental health management, teaching,
and clinical roles. He has always maintained a private clinical and teaching
consultancy, including 4yrs teaching counselling and psychology at Southern
Cross University. In 2001 he was appointed as Team Leader of the Ausaid funded
National Mental Health Project in East Timor. Since the successful completion of
that project in 2005 he has lived in rural Thailand with his wife.
His areas of clinical expertise include:
- management of anxiety,
depression and suicide prevention
- drug and alcohol dependence
- post traumatic stress disorder
- personality disorder
- relationship counseling
Tim has attended many in-service
and short term training courses over his 35 year career, and has published
articles on a variety of mental health issues, including depression. He prefers
to work using present and future focused therapies and to design programmes that
best suit each individual, rather than exclusively follow one
particular approach. His choice of therapies often includes -brief therapy,
CBT, Gestalt, solution focused therapy, Zen meditation, and client centered
counselling.
